Property Law
Background
Some attorneys practice real
estate law - we practice property law. What's the difference?
Real estate law is the area of law that governs the various
forms of ownership in real property (i.e., land). Property law
encompasses real estate law and personal property law, such as
money, negotiable instruments, securities, goods, and intangible
assets, including chose in action (e.g.., the right of enforcing
by legal proceedings the payment of a debt, or the obtaining
money by way of damages for contract, or as a recompense for a
wrong).
We assist individual clients with:
- The purchase and sale of single family and condominium
dwellings and disputes resulting from these transactions;
- Resolving commercial and residential landlord/ tenant
disputes including representation in eviction matters;
- Drafting and reviewing commercial and residential
leases;
- Drafting and reviewing other documents and contracts
such as private mortgages and promissory notes;
- Creating nominee trusts for land ownership;
- Identifying subsidized housing options for low income
or disabled individuals;
- Resolving boundary line disputes and curing title
defects;
- Identification and eradication of environmental issues
associated with home ownership;
- Identifying options to prevent home foreclosure;
- Collecting on money judgments and verified debts.

"I had a tenant who refused to pay rent for 3 months
straight. I fell behind in my mortgage, and there was no end in
sight. I called Attorney Barbour and she helped me to get my
apartment back." - RS - Lowell, MA.
